What Kind of Parents Take Their Kids Shopping on Black Friday?

Perhaps, I should clarify that title. It should read: “What Kind of Parents Take Their Kids Shopping at Midnight on Black Friday?” Midnight, 4 a.m., 5 a.m.—-where were your kids at those hours? I know where mine weren’t—in line outside of outlet malls that opened at 12 a.m., department stores that opened at 4 a.m. and Wal-Mart, Target, Toys R Us, and the slew of other retailers, which opened their doors to crazed bargain hunters at 5 a.m. Friday morning. Still, if you watched the news tonight I’m sure you saw what I did. Hundreds of adults pushing stroller after … Continue reading

Your Dad’s Photo on the Cover of a Magazine

If you are looking for the perfect Father’s Day photo gift then you’ve come to the right place. While some men are more willing to admit it than others I doubt there are many dads out there who haven’t dreamed of seeing their photo grace the cover of a magazine. Some dads would kill to see their faces on the cover of Sports Illustrated or Golf Digest (or in my brother’s case—-SURFING Magazine). Heck, I know some dads who wouldn’t mind seeing their mugs on the cover of GQ magazine. Regardless of your dad’s preference in periodicals there is a … Continue reading

And you don’t think my Mother’s Day camera will go over well with him either, well, I have one more item he might be delighted to unwrap on Father’s Day. Canon’s PowerShot 650 IS is perfect for the snap happy dad who wants a camera that packs a punch, but doesn’t have the time or energy to read an owner’s manual the size of a pocket dictionary to get it to work. (Not that most dads read owners manuals to begin … Continue reading

My Mother’s Day Photo Surprise—The Gift that Keeps on Giving

I know, Father’s Day is just around the corner so why I am writing about my Mother’s Day gift? For starters, it’s an incredible gift and one that could easily be given to dad on his big day as well. The other reason… I wanted to experiment with my gift for a couple of weeks before writing this blog so I would be better able to assess its pros and cons. So what was my big Mother’s Day surprise (besides the gorgeous pink rose my young daughter picked out all by herself to give to me)? Canon’s PowerShot A720 IS … Continue reading

Warning to Parents: Watch Your Kids… Especially at Chuck E. Cheese

At least that’s the message a TV station in San Antonio, Texas is trying to get out to parents. A local TV news crew there recently aired an investigative report illustrating dangerous lapses in security at nearly every Chuck E. Cheese restaurant in the city. At the heart of the investigation was the popular restaurant chain’s Kid Check program. Parents with young children are likely familiar with the service. Basically, when you visit the kiddie eatery, which is jam-packed with video games, indoor playground equipment and other toys, you get your hand stamped with invisible ink. When you visit in … Continue reading

Photography Week in Review for June 2-8, 2008

I’ve written about snap happy parents who are willing to contort their bodies into strange pretzel-like shapes just to get their children to smile for their cameras, but that’s nothing compared to what parents of fur babies will do to get frameworthy shots of their pooches. This week I provided tips for animal lovers on how to get prized shots of their pets. In addition, I shared my thoughts on the demise of traditional film cameras and revealed the suspiring photo gift I was presented with this Mother’s Day. June 2nd—–Photographing Your Furry Friends. Pet owners know there is nothing … Continue reading

Bryce Dallas Howard Weds Longtime Beau

I’ve always had the perspective that roles come into my life when I need them most and sort of teach me lessons. The same can be true of films, films are released into society to aid in a lesson, inspire people, comfort people. – Bryce Dallas Howard Call me out of the loop, but I was not even aware that Ron Howard had a daughter who acted until I saw The Village. If you have seen that movie, you cannot help but notice Bryce Dallas Howard. In her first real starring role, Bryce was so realistic as the blind girl … Continue reading
