Pining for Photoshop

If you are an avid digital scrapbooker, but your photos leave more to be desired than your layouts, then you might consider investing in high-quality computer software. I’ve been pining for Photoshop for years. The photo-editing software fits into the “premiere” category and is often used by professional graphic designers. However, it can also be a scrapbooker’s best friend. The software allows you to edit images in a variety of ways including cropping, modifying brightness and contrast, as well as adding a slew of special effects. The downside to all this fabulosity is the high price. Photoshop doesn’t come cheap; … Continue reading

Where to Find Free Photos

Whether you are looking for a photo to post on Facebook or you need an image to add to a school newsletter or yard sale sign, there’s a very good chance you’ll head to the World Wide Web to snag the perfect snapshot. Unfortunately, not all pictures seen on the Internet are free to copy and use as you see fit. Many images come with copyright restrictions, usage fees or other conditions. The good news is there are also quite a few websites that feature restriction free images. These photographs are posted by amateur shooters who encourage the use of … Continue reading

Photos in Bloom

Despite this week’s wicked winds and freezing cold temperatures, we’ve experienced a very mild autumn. When you live in northern Wisconsin you never take for granted a rare 12-day stretch of 80 degree days in late September/early October. As a result of the unseasonably high temperatures many of the flowers that frame our home are still in bloom. We’ve only had one night that dipped below freezing, so many of the blossoms are still sturdy and bright. The unusual occurrence has inspired me to get outside to document the pretty sights. While my photo specialty is not floral and fauna, … Continue reading

Previously, most, if not all, of the children who have been born with this rare disease were white. There are some physical similarities that exist in all children who have Progeria. Ontlametse Phalatse, a twelve year old girl who was born in South Africa, is the first black child to have been born with the rare disease called Progeria. She has been calling herself “the first lady”, in part because no one knows of any other black children who have ever … Continue reading

Do You Photoshop?

I’ve been lusting after Adobe Photoshop software since it debuted in 1988. Yet, like my long-lost love, the Dyson, we have yet to join forces. Of course, even if I had the money in 1988 to purchase the popular photo-editing software, I would have had to upgrade by now. Since its debut, Photoshop has been revised more than 10 times. In October 2008, the 11th major release of Adobe Photoshop took place and along with the upgrades came a name change, from Adobe Photoshop 8 to Adobe Photoshop CS. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the software, it’s … Continue reading
