Father's Day Photo Gift Ideas

Years ago when I was working at a local TV station one of the meteorologists showed up the day after Father's Day proudly sporting the gift he received from his two young daughters---a silk screen tie featuring a picture of them sitting in a tree.

Yes, he wore it on the air, and yes, I'm sure it delighted his daughters tremendously. At the time I couldn't help but think of the millions of other dads, who while grateful for the thought put into the gift, would never have done the same thing.

To each his own I guess. The important thing to remember is that these days the number of photo inspired items available for Father's Day gifts has grown exponentially.

From mouse pads to mugs, boxers to baseball caps, and everything in between photo gift options abound online and in stores. The trick is finding the right picture to feature on your gift item. Think about what your dad is most proud of or the activity he most enjoys participating in. Once you get an idea of what you are shooting for then covertly try to snap a photo of dad in action--whether it's biking, golfing, running, fishing or playing with his kids or grandkids. Once you've done that you can decide which image will best complement the photo gift you plan to give him.

Another timeless photo gift to give dad this Father's Day is a vintage black and white shot presented in a silver frame. Comb through old family photo albums and search for pictures of your dad with his dad or his grandfather. Once you've chosen your favorite shot you can scan it and make an enlargement or canvas print. If you found a great shot of your dad posing with your grandfather you could place it in a double frame next to a picture of you and your dad.
