More Tips for Picking a Photo-Sharing Siteby Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger 17 Jun 2008 05:24 PM In my last blog I told you about the task I have of organizing and sharing the hundreds of photos that were snapped at my daughter's recent birthday party. With summer in full swing I'm sure many of you are dealing with similar situations. Whether you are drowning in wedding pictures, graduation photos or shots from your family reunion now might be the time to seriously consider choosing a photo-sharing website to preserve, organize and share your images with the world. I gave you some starter tips on choosing the best photo-sharing site in my previous blog and here now are a few more points to consider before uploading your prized shots: OPTIONS Examine how the site allows you to share images. Can you send e-mails inviting friends and family to visit and view your images? Or do you have limited viewing? Also, make sure that you can designate your images "private" or "public" especially if you have shots you don't want the entire world to view. Some sites have what's called a "community," where your pictures can be viewed by not only your loved ones but other Internet users the world over. PRODUCTS As I mentioned in my last blog most photo-sharing sites make their money by selling prints and other photo products. It's a good idea to comparison shop on prices for prints and other photo memorabilia, such as photo books, mouse pads, mugs, and shirts. Also, take a good look at the shipping charges, which in some cases cost more than the prints or products themselves. CATCHES What's the catch? Does the photo-sharing site you are interested in allow you to download images and print them on your own? Or are you required to purchase prints through the website? Make sure you read the fine print before you register with a photo-sharing site. You don't want to upload images and then find out that you have to pay an exorbitant fee to see them in print.
