No Shame In Using Your Phone

I have noticed a growing trend lately. Bloggers, even the best of them, are using photos they took with their phones in their posts, a spot usually reserved for only the best pictures. It just goes to show you that there is more to photography than the camera quality. I have run across some great shots that were taken with camera phones. There are probably a number of reasons behind this trend.

I think part of the reason these photos turn out so great is the fact that they were taken at just the right time. Not everyone has a camera on them all the time, but many people keep their phone on them all day, every day. It's easy to whip out the phone, hit the camera button and release the shutter in just a few seconds. Camera phones also provide people with a more discreet way of taking a picture. In situations where you would not feel comfortable holding up a camera, you can simply pretend to take a call or dial and take a photo instead. It's like something out of a spy movie.

The other reason I think we're seeing camera phone pictures all over the web is camera phones are really improving. The iPhone camera can produce really good photos, especially when paired with an app that adds special effects. Most camera phones feature more mega-pixels and advanced features these days. My last phone did not take very good pictures, but when I upgraded recently to a new model, I noticed that I can now take black and white or sepia photos, adjust the brightness, zoom in, and take panorama shots. The clarity has greatly improved, and transferring my pictures to my computer or sending them in an email is easier than ever.

Here is a picture I took with my phone's panorama mode just the other day:
