Nostalgia Nights

After the heavy topics of the last few days I thought I’d opt for something lighter today. What about taking a step back into the past? Hold a nostalgia night or several. It could be good for your marriage. Recently Mick was talking about soothing that happened when we were younger, which is what ca gave me the idea. We decided to hold a series of nostalgia nights. Starting with our wedding photos, we followed the course of our life together via the photo albums right up to the wedding of our son. Our wedding photos didn’t take all that … Continue reading

Of Photos and Nostalgia

When I graduated from high school, my grandfather gave me a photo album that he had put together. In it was a photo history of my life, from birth to graduation, with hand-typed text describing the photos and what he remembered about each date. He put everything in an expandable album, and the idea was for me to continue to add to it over the years. I did a pretty good job through my college years, but then I got behind. The cover quote is: “Like gentle waves Returning to the sunlit shore… Sweet memories returning To the heart once … Continue reading

Drifting Apart

During one of our nostalgia nights we also looked over both children’s baby books. It’s easy to forget little things that happen, so it was fun to reminisce about the cute and funny things they said and some of the antics they got up to. What was interesting when we went through baby books, we found some names of people we received gifts and cards from were names we couldn’t place. The same happened with some of the slides, we found there were people that we used to know but we simply couldn’t remember who they were. It seems we … Continue reading

Tips for Taking that Perfect Photo: Props

Props are not essential to a great photo of your baby, but they can add humor, put your tiny one’s size in perspective, or add a little nostalgia to the photo (for example, having your baby pose with your childhood teddy bear!) Here are a few guidelines for using props in your baby’s portrait. If you’ve just “dropped in,” check out the first two installments of this series: Timing and Lighting. Our Lives in Pictures

The entirety of my kitchen, half of my daughter’s room and all over my office, on my computer screen, in my husband’s screen saver and more are all family pictures, particularly focusing on our daughter. We have pictures of most of the major moments in her life, including holidays and more. We capture these moments in our life and in our child’s life in pictures. We can look back at them and see their first hour after their birth. We can see their first ride in the car when we took them home. We can see their first Christmas. We … Continue reading
