Printing Photos from a SD Card

PictBridge technology may be a popular way to share phenomenal photos with family and friends, but it is hardly the only way. Another very effective and easy way to print frame worthy shots is through a card reader. These days you will be hard pressed to find a digital camera that doesn’t have the memory space to store at least a few thousand high-resolution pictures. However, if you want to move your cherished shots from your camera directly onto your computer without using cables, you’ll need a card reader. This is where a Secure Digital (SD) card comes into play. … Continue reading

Disney PhotoPass

It’s time for another edition of “What Is This Disney Feature?” In February I learned of all the many places money on a Disney gift card might be spent, but two of the names were unfamiliar. I’ve since examined Club Penguin, and today I’ll look at the second title I didn’t recognize: Disney PhotoPass. Disney’s all about creating lasting memories. That’s even the latest theme at the Disney parks. Because a primary way people make and preserve memories on vacations and throughout their lives is through photography, Disney decided to get in on the action. PhotoPass has existed for years … Continue reading

Where Do You Go For Professional Photos?

Personally, I go to the company that sends me coupons for the biggest discounts and other upgrades and freebies. How’s that for loyalty? This month it was Sears Portrait Studio. Let me preface this blog by saying that the only reason Sears sends me coupons and other freebies is because my aunt gifted my daughter with a membership to the company’s Smile Saver program shortly after she was born. The membership has long since expired, but being the persistent portrait studio that it is, Sears still dutifully sends us coupons at least once a month. By the way, you can … Continue reading

Photo Books: An Introduction

There’s something really appealing to me about a professionally bound book containing my own photos, text, and graphics. Perhaps it’s the writer and wanna-be designer in me that loves seeing all my work printed and presented beautifully for others to see. These are just a couple of reasons I love the printed photo books that are becoming so popular these days. I did my first photo book a couple of years ago right before getting married. I wanted to show off many of the engagement photos we’d had taken, but didn’t want to have them in a traditional album or … Continue reading

Picking a Photo-Sharing Site

My daughter’s last birthday party was attended by dozens of family members and friends. The “Lilo & Stitch”/Hawaiian theme was a huge hit and I took more pictures than I could possibly, scrapbook, frame or file. On top of the shots I took my brothers, friends and other family members also snapped dozens and dozens of other photos with their own cameras and cellphones. A month after the party I was swimming in birthday pictures. Enter the photo-sharing website. If you have hundreds of pictures you want to preserve, organize and share with the world I highly suggest finding a … Continue reading

Do you use all of your camera’s features or do you stick with the AUTO mode? And once you do snap keepers of your loved ones, how long does it take for you to print them out? Do you still have photos from Christmas sitting in your digital camera? These were just some of the questions I posed to readers in the PHOTOGRAPHY blog over the past few days. This week we focused on printing: How to, how often, and how it all works. If you missed any of our discussions now is the time to catch up. May 19th—–Megapixels … Continue reading

Photo Printing Options

Judging by the line of people at my local grocery store most digital photographers print their photos outside their homes. It never ceases to amaze me how long people are willing to wait in line for the person in front of them to painstakingly go through each and every shot on store photo kiosks when they could be getting the task done at home. By using Pictbridge-enabled cameras and printers you can avoid the long lines at places such as Wal-Mart and Walgreens. For those of you unfamiliar with the name, PictBridge is the single printing format shared by the … Continue reading

Features to Consider Before Purchasing a Photo Scanner

You finally made up your mind and decided to add a photo scanner to your home office. Congratulations! Now comes the hard part—-what to look for prior to making your purchase. RESOLUTION Hands down this is the main feature to consider when shopping for a scanner. Resolution is measured in pixels per inch (dpi). At least 2700 dpi is required to enlarge slides and negatives for an 8 x 10-inch print. Keep that number in mind when you’re out shopping. Though for the most part the majority of photo scanners on the market today scan at least at 3,200 dpi. … Continue reading

Why Invest in a Photo Scanner

So you finally moved into the 21st century and got yourself a digital camera. But what about all those boxes full of loose photos that are cluttering your basement. This might just be the perfect time to finally purchase a photo scanner. Spring cleaning can be made much easier with this simple piece of technology. For those of you who are not familiar with photo scanners they function like a copy machine, but instead of printing out paper copies they digitize photographs, slides, negatives and other records for you to store on your computer. Which means pictures of your son’s … Continue reading
