More Tips for Photographing Your Pet

In my last blog I told you about my friend who gives new meaning to the term “snap happy parent.” Only her baby has four legs and much larger tongue than most kids. Her fur baby is her new puppy and the amount of pictures she has taken of that pooch is utterly amazing. If you are an overzealous puppy parent you might be swimming in shots as well. I understand that my pal wants to capture her pooch in all her glory so that she can share with the rest of the world how special she feels her dog … Continue reading

Taking Great Animal Pictures at the Zoo

As I mentioned in an earlier article about Photographing Animals at the Zoo, I love taking pictures of wildlife, animals and pets. I just love animals. Every time I have the opportunity to photograph an animal, I get in active mode looking for that perfect shot. I am also the type of person to continuously take multiple photographs all in one session. Which brings me to an important tip. If you are working with a digital camera, take lots and lots of pictures. Keep snapping going for that perfect shot. You will wind up with a lot of bad shots, … Continue reading

Dealing with Unpredictable Photo Subjects

Young kids and hungry giraffes; you can’t get much more unpredictable. I learned this first hand during a recent trip to the zoo. My second grader loves animals and can’t resist the urge to feed the giraffes whenever we visit our local zoo. However, trying to capture the moment with my non-Nikon D800 camera proved to be next to impossible. I blame my camera, but there were a number of other factors that contributed to my lousy shots, including poor lighting and my bad vantage point. In addition, I was forced to deal with two very unpredictable subjects. Whereas I … Continue reading

Have a Merry New York Christmas

It’s been nearly eight years since I posed in front of New York’s most famous Christmas tree. The towering Rockefeller Center Christmas tree serves as a seasonal centerpiece in the Big Apple during the holidays, but it’s just one of many, many highlights you will experience if you decide to spend December in NYC. Other must-visit holiday-themed attractions include: Soak in spectacular views of the city from 70 stories up at 30 Rock’s Top of the Rock observation deck. Kick your holiday season into gear by taking in a magical Christmas performance at Radio City Music Hall. Remember the true … Continue reading

My First Camera–An Introduction

I remember my first camera—it was a kid camera using the micro 110mm film format. It was a miniature little camera with no settings and with the “curly” kind of film. My family was going on vacation to San Diego, and my sister and I each got one of these little cameras to take pictures with. I think of the whole roll of film, only one or two photos actually had a distinguishable image on them, and even then the photos were filled with bars and other items other than the magnificent animals at the San Diego Zoo. How I … Continue reading

Making Time for Family

Being a busy single parent it is difficult to find the time to do the things that you want to do. It seems like most days fly right by because you are so extra busy. When you do get time off it is important to let some things slide once in a while and make time for fun. With the summer months fast approaching plan some special weekends when you feel that you can let some of your responsibilities take the back seat in order to put your family first. Plan to take 2 to 3 days during the month … Continue reading

Photography Week in Review for August 20th-26th, 2007

It was such a busy week in the photography blog and we were are so busy researching and trying to bring you new and fresh material, that I somehow forgot to do the Week in Review for the 20th to the 26th, so here it is. Digital Photography 101: An Introduction Enough is enough. I’m throwing down the gauntlet. My co-blogger Nicole and I have written a number of blogs explaining why we prefer using film cameras rather than digital ones. However, we are by no means digital camera rebels and to prove my point I have decided to write … Continue reading

Digital Camera Tips: Taking Portraits

The majority of photos taken with a digital camera are probably portraits. This makes a lot of sense, of course. We love having photos of our friends and family to cherish for a lifetime. It is easy to take the camera and just point and click a few times, attempting to get a great photo. By the time that third or fourth photo comes around, your subject is probably tired of the photo taking. He or she may have a bored expression, a forced smile or, in the case of young children, might even walk, toddle or crawl out of … Continue reading
