Photographing Your Family at a Theme Parkby Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger 03 Aug 2008 08:28 PM Think of the photo opportunities just waiting to be snapped at your favorite amusement park: your son's first ride on the merry-go-round, your daughter posing with her favorite characters, your spouse dancing with a clown and your entire clan on a speeding roller coaster. If you are planning a family trip to an amusement park this summer, don't forget your camera and once you are there consider the following tips to ensure you capture all the Kodak moments: Use your camera's self-timer. I mentioned several photos ops in my opening paragraph, but don't forget to get into some of the pictures yourself. Simply look for a flat surface to place your camera (or pack a tripod), set the self timer and get in on the action. (Read your camera's manual for detailed instructions on the self-timer.) Capture color. Amusement parks are bursting with bright colors and designs that make for outstanding backgrounds. The midway is a perfect place to take shots of your kids. Or you could have them pose next to a colorful clown, cotton candy vendor or perched on top of a horse drawn carriage. Get creative. If it takes kneeling down to get your daughter's entire body in a shot with a speeding roller coaster in the background then do so. Don't settle for the same ol' static shot. Try to take your shot from the best possible position even if it means standing on a park bench or squatting next to a colorful bed of flowers. Save some shots for nighttime. Most major amusement parks come alive when the sun sets. Twinkling lights and firework shows are just a couple of images you can snap at dusk. Remember to turn off the flash and hold your camera extra steady if you are shooting in low light.
