My Mother-in-Law

The other day Dale wrote an article entitled “Are You the Exception to the Rule?”. It was about relationships with mother-in-laws, in particular ones that are very amicable. As I commented on Dale’s blog, I have a bit of an unconventional relationship with my mother-in-law. Wayne’s Mom As many of you regular readers know, Wayne and I have been together for over 20 years. (This past May, we celebrated 22 years together. And in a little over a week, we’ll celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary.) I knew Wayne’s dad very well. I met him right at the beginning of our … Continue reading

Tips for Photographing People

I like taking photos of still life and landscapes for fun. It gives me the opportunity to use my creative talents. But I think photos of people are the best type of photos. Unfortunately people also make some of the worst subjects. In the last couple of weeks I have scanned hundreds of old family photographs for my slide show projects. The photos of people fascinate me more than photos of any other subject. What makes a good photo of a person? I think capturing the person’s personality, character and emotion gives the viewer of the photo a connection to … Continue reading

Tips for Photo Sorting

That is my son’s history there was no way I would let anyone throw those photos away. Out of necessity I had to come up with a creative way to sort and store the mountain of photographs that were … Continue reading

Who Are These People?

I spent most of my weekend scanning old photographs for another slide show DVD project. Several years ago my mother in law gave me a large disorganized box of family photos. Two years ago during one of our rare snow days in Tennessee I found the time to sort through the photos and put them in somewhat of an order. I haven’t looked at the photos since the day I sorted them and neatly tucked them away in a box. This weekend as I pulled out the photo pouches from the box an overwhelming feeling of “Who are these people?” … Continue reading

Slide Show DVD – Made My Mother In Law Cry

My husband, David finally sent the slide show DVD to his mother yesterday. One of the advantages of living near the FedEx hub in Memphis is we can ship anything and have it to its destination the next day. My mother in law received the DVD today. She called my husband at work crying. I knew it touched her to warrant a middle of the week daytime phone call. She told him she couldn’t believe that pictures would make her cry. My husband and I laughed for a few minutes that I was actually the good daughter in law for … Continue reading
