Meaningful Thanksgiving Layouts

Uncle Frank chowing down on pumpkin pie, grandma serving up her famous green bean casserole and the kids fighting over who gets the turkey wishbone. We’ve all created scrapbook layouts using photos of the aforementioned events, but do you really want to go another year filing the same ol’ images in the same ol’ spots and accenting them with the same ol’ embellishments? This Thanksgiving why not add some pizzazz to your page designs by adding touching sayings that reflect the true meaning behind the holiday. If you don’t want to exercise your creative muscle and write out a few … Continue reading

Coordinating the Family Christmas Photo

It’s the annual holiday event that camera-shy adults and squirmy kids absolutely dread: Christmas card photo shoots. Yes, it’s that time of the year again. Time to don your holiday best and say “Cheese!” for the camera. If your family is anything like mine, then gathering for a semi-formal photo session can be enough to drive you to the spiked punch bowl… more than once… in less than an hour. Still, the long Thanksgiving weekend is one of the best times of the year to snap a holiday photo, since it’s one of the few times that entire families are … Continue reading

How To Spice Up Family Photos

Believe it or not I just received a Valentine’s Day card in the mail. It’s shocking; not because it’s March, but because technically it’s a Christmas card. My friend’s belated holiday greeting went from being a Christmas card to a New Year’s newsletter to a Valentine’s Day wish and ended up being a combination of all three. Regardless of when it arrived it was a nice surprise and worth mentioning in this blog because of the unique family photo that was enclosed in the card. Forget about posing for the traditional family portrait with the entire clan standing in front … Continue reading

More Tips for Winter Photo Shoots

If you live anywhere near the Upper Midwest portion of the United States then I’m sure you would agree that Old Man Winter has hung around long enough. During the last four months we have been hammered with snowstorm after snowstorm; endured brutal wind chills and chipped off more layers of ice than most Alaskans do in a lifetime. Still, there are times when I have peered out my bedroom window and wished I was hearty enough to brave the elements in order to capture some frameworthy winter scenes. Alas, I have not made good on my New Year’s resolution … Continue reading

Christmas Photo Fun with Self Timers

Merry Christmas from the Photography Blog! If you are celebrating the day with a new camera I’m sure you’ve been very busy. You don’t have to be a snap happy parent to be experiencing finger fatigue right now. The holidays are a time when most people’s cameras work overtime and for good reason. Think of all the great shots (candid and otherwise) that are captured this time of the year: baby’s first visit to see Santa, your 5-year-old donning a headband with reindeer antlers, your entire family in front of the Christmas tree, your husband tipping over the tree in … Continue reading

Who’s In Your Christmas Card Photo?

I got into this discussion with my fellow playgroup moms a few days ago. One of the moms decided to save on postage and handed out her Christmas cards to all of us during our weekly gathering. I opened mine right away and complimented her on getting a great shot of her kids lined up in front of the Christmas tree. (Any parent knows that’s no easy task when you have five kids under the age of 10.) The compliment was soon followed by inquiries by other moms wondering why said mom and her husband were not in the shot. … Continue reading

Photography Week in Review for November 19-November 24, 2007

With Thanksgiving being the highlight of the week I spent time focusing on holiday picture taking opportunities and how to frame those prize-winning family portraits. Also, included in this Photography Week in Review… a dash of celebrity photographers and a pinch of gratitude for my favorite camera. Take a look: November 19th—–Celebrity Photographers: Jeff Bridges. Who said all actors are one-dimensional? If you are a fan of actor Jeff Bridges you are used to seeing him in front of the camera, but not very many know what a whiz he is behind the lens. If you don’t believe me, head … Continue reading
