The World's Slimmest Digital Cameraby Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger 26 Nov 2007 07:07 PM Now that Thanksgiving is over and we have officially entered into the holiday gift buying season I thought it would be appropriate to write about one of the most popular digital cameras on the market today. If you are shopping for the perfect holiday present to give a family member or friend who enjoys taking pictures, but refuses to carry around a bulky camera and accompanying accessories then you might consider purchasing Casio's new EXILIM Hi-ZOOM EX-V7. It is being touted as "the world's slimmest digital camera with a 7X optical zoom lens." The camera is as thin as a rail (okay, maybe more like a chubby credit card) and easily fits into a shirt pocket or a coin purse. Besides its size the other feature that stands out about this camera is its powerful zoom capability. If you've experimented with compact, high-performance digital cameras in the past then you know there is typically a trade-off between zoom power and camera size. For years if you wanted a decent shot of a subject at a distance you likely didn't use a slim camera. In most cases you'd simply sacrifice zoom for portability and figured that was just the way the cookie crumbled. Now, according to Casio, you don't have to. The company's new edition to the EXILIM line, the EX-V7, gives users the best of both worlds. Camera experts call the new device "an exceptionally portable, great-looking digital camera with a powerful zoom lens." I don't own this camera. However, I did experiment with it at my local photo shop. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that my camera has, but it does have a number of noteworthy features of its own. My favorites include the function for reducing photo blur. That feature combines with Casio's Anti-Shake DSP, which reduces blur due to shaky hands (let's face it shaky hands are part of the territory when you are clutching such a small piece of equipment) by using higher ISO sensitivity and faster shutter speeds. The camera also features new motion analysis technology that uses the most appropriate ISO sensitivity and shutter speed to capture a moving photo subject. Even at high zoom settings, the EX-V7 is said to help reduce blurry shots. The EXILIM Hi-Zoom EX-V7 sells for about $400.
