Transitioning Your Child to Their New Home

How a child is transitioned is so important! There are families who feel like the transition should take as long as possible to ensure a smoother transition, and others who feel a fast transition is better, allowing the new parents to take that opportunity to comfort and soothe the child. How long a transition should take really depends on the child, and the foster family. In our first son’s case, the foster family felt they needed to say goodbye quickly for their own emotional concerns. Our son was 13 ½ months old. I think it would have been hard on … Continue reading

Spring Break Snapshots

I can’t get Pink’s “Raise Your Glass” out of my head. Only, when I think of my upcoming spring break photo shoot in Chicago, I contemplate changing “glass” to “camera” and using it as my theme song. I’m just a few weeks away from job shadowing a portrait photographer in one of the most photographed metropolises in world. I can’t wait. I love Chicago and getting the chance to shoot outdoors in the Windy City with one of my favorite pro photographers is an opportunity of a lifetime. Of course, Chicago is not the only place in the world that … Continue reading

Here are a few guidelines for using props in your baby’s portrait. If you’ve just “dropped in,” check out the first two installments of this series: Timing and Lighting. Keep it Simple If you’re going to use a prop, such as a toy, limit it to one, possibly two objects. You don’t want to crowd the photo with … Continue reading

Does Buying Organic Make You a Better Parent?

If you watched Monday’s episode of “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” then you’d think the answer was: “Absolutely!” Take that Jon. Monday’s show featured Kate taking her kids to an organic produce farm run by an Amish family. Cameras captured Kate and her eight kids picking up fresh watermelon, cantaloupe, peppers, corn and other veggies at “Henry’s,” then taking their goods home to make a “meal from scratch.” “It is pure joy when I can go to a produce stand and buy produce that has been picked that morning and it will land on my table that evening for dinner,” … Continue reading

Belated Christmas Surprise in Bed

This isn’t going to be what you think from first glance. It has nothing to do with nookie. It does involve a belated Christmas gift that was delivered to me in bed, though. In one of the most romantic, delightful, surprising ways. Let’s go back a couple of days. It’ll make more sense why this gesture was even that much more romantic. Christmas Morning in Tears Wayne gave me my Christmas gift early: a digital camera. That was fine. I was tickled pink to get it, even if I went with and it didn’t come as a surprise. However, when … Continue reading
