Tips for Snapping Super Summer Photos at the Beachby Michele Cheplic | More from this Blogger 12 Jun 2009 02:27 PM Summer is here (unofficially) and that means many snap happy parents will be toting their cameras to the beach to snap frame worthy shots of their kids frolicking in the sand and surf. If you plan to document your kids surfing and sculpting sand, then consider the following tips: Bye-Bye Boring Shots: Liven up your scrapbook by taking action shots of your friends and family members. Bring a ball or a Frisbee to the beach, get a game going, and then snap away. Drop to your knees to get interesting angles of your loved ones in action. You can also bend down to capture unique shots of your kids playing in the waves or making sand sculptures. By doing so, you're guaranteed to capture candid shots that tell a thought-provoking story. Cool Composition: Taking a static shot of the sea makes for a dull picture. When composing your shots include surrounding objects such as rocks, cliffs or a lighthouse. Also, don't be afraid to experiment with different angles. Large waves hitting jagged rocks add drama to a photo. Lovely Lighting: Taking super shots at the beach can be challenging, especially if you are shooting on a cloudless day. While the sun is the best light source for a photographer, it can also create unwanted shadows during the mid-day hours. To avoid taking photos with too much glare, shoot from different angles. By doing so you can reduce the need to delete pictures featuring squinting faces and washed out backgrounds. Tell a Story: Most parents fall into the trap of including their children in every shot. While you are at the beach try to find other points of interest (e.g. shells, waves, footprints in the sand, etc.) and snap those too. This will enable you to tell a story with your pictures once you return home.
