Destination Weddings: Do or Don’t?

Writing about Disney Cruise Weddings/Vow Ceremonies made me think about destination weddings.  Given that I wanted my wedding to be as small and simple as possible, it’s difficult for me to relate to those interested in having a destination wedding. For me, the concept only seems to make sense if the bride or the groom actually hails from the area in which they’re getting married.  Maybe he or she was born abroad, or on the other side of the country.  It’s one thing to ask your guests to spend a lot on travel expenses just because you want to get … Continue reading

Busy Summer Scrapbooking

According to the owner of my local scrapbook supply shop, summer is her slowest time of the year. Ironically, summer is when I do the bulk of my memory book-making. Perhaps, it’s because my daughter is off of school during the summer and we tend to craft more when she is home. However, I have a feeling that the reason I complete more scrapbooks in the summer months is because I take more pictures during June, July and August than other months. While the rest of the world puts their cameras to use extensively during the holidays (October, November and … Continue reading

Frame It Up

It’s curtains for Nate Berkus. The spawn of Oprah is an incredibly talented interior designer, but his daytime talk show just got axed. I didn’t get the chance to tune in regularly, but when I did catch a show it was always one that included tips on creating a photo wall. No lie. I’ve watched the show maybe a dozen times and every single one provided tips on how to showcase your favorite frame worthy images using any available wall space in your home. Despite following Nate’s advice, my photo walls don’t look nearly as eye-catching as his. Still, his … Continue reading

Spring Break Snaps at the Beach

Spring break is in full swing right now. Beaches from coast-to-coast are crammed with college coeds and families with young kids on vacation. These precious moments that showcase fun in the sun should be documented and shared with others. However, instead of focusing exclusively on activities that take place above the water, why not dive down below the waves to snap keepers of all your clan’s underwater adventures? The prospect of taking decent underwater photos is daunting for many people; however, with the right equipment and a little practice, you can snap frame worthy shots without sinking like a rock. … Continue reading

Disney PhotoPass

It’s time for another edition of “What Is This Disney Feature?” In February I learned of all the many places money on a Disney gift card might be spent, but two of the names were unfamiliar. I’ve since examined Club Penguin, and today I’ll look at the second title I didn’t recognize: Disney PhotoPass. Disney’s all about creating lasting memories. That’s even the latest theme at the Disney parks. Because a primary way people make and preserve memories on vacations and throughout their lives is through photography, Disney decided to get in on the action. PhotoPass has existed for years … Continue reading

Scrapbooking Thumbnail Images

I believe in thinking outside the box, and also using what you have. Many times, when we order digital photos from a place like shutterfly.com or Target, or whatever source we might use, we get a tiny printout of thumbnail images that are included in the order. Have you ever thought of scrapbooking these? Well, I have, and I did! It seems like such a waste to me to have these little images. I usually just throw them away, and don’t give it a second thought, but recently on a layout, I decided that it might be fun to use … Continue reading

My First Camera–An Introduction

I remember my first camera—it was a kid camera using the micro 110mm film format. It was a miniature little camera with no settings and with the “curly” kind of film. My family was going on vacation to San Diego, and my sister and I each got one of these little cameras to take pictures with. I think of the whole roll of film, only one or two photos actually had a distinguishable image on them, and even then the photos were filled with bars and other items other than the magnificent animals at the San Diego Zoo. How I … Continue reading

Creating Photo Books

If there is one thing in my home that I truly treasure it is the pictures of my children. I have spring babies so in just a couple of months all three of my children will be having birthdays. My baby is turning 11. My only daughter will be 13 and my oldest son will be 16. I can hardly believe it. One of the things we always do to celebrate their birthdays is to bring out their old picture albums. I started scrapbooking when they were babies so I have a few but as the years went on and … Continue reading

Frugal Vacation: Think Outside the Gift Shop

Sure you want to take a little piece of your summer vacation home with you. But will one more mug, keychain, pen or snow globe really preserve your memories? Here is how to bring home the souvenirs, but in a practical way. Gift shops are usually loaded with overpriced merchandise that you can often get elsewhere for less money. Often, the souvenirs don’t even have any connection to the vacation at all. One of the recent episodes of Jon & Kate Plus Eight showed Mama Gosselin on vacation, loading up on toys and play purses that could probably be purchased … Continue reading
