Your Dad's Photo on the Cover of a Magazine

If you are looking for the perfect Father's Day photo gift then you've come to the right place.

While some men are more willing to admit it than others I doubt there are many dads out there who haven't dreamed of seeing their photo grace the cover of a magazine. Some dads would kill to see their faces on the cover of Sports Illustrated or Golf Digest (or in my brother's case--SURFING Magazine). Heck, I know some dads who wouldn't mind seeing their mugs on the cover of GQ magazine.

Regardless of your dad's preference in periodicals there is a way you can make his dream a reality just in time for Father's Day... thanks to a great photo and some high tech help.

Several photo shops and even some select retail stores offer photo development services that allow you to add a little flare to that ordinary picture you planned to frame and give to dad this Father's Day. Magazine covers are fun and surprisingly simple to create.

Yesterday I visited my local camera shot to put one together as a gift for my brother. (I wouldn't dream of doing one for my own dad as he is one those guys who winces whenever he sees a picture of himself--regardless of how nice the shot is.) Frankly, I was shocked at how easy it was to create the customized magazine cover. It took five steps and less than 10 minutes to make.

The process might be different according to your location, but in most shops you simply use the same kiosks that produce traditional prints except instead of hitting the "PRINTS" option you select "CREATE CARDS AND CALENDARS."

From there select "MAGAZINE COVERS" then browse through the different templates and choose the cover most appropriate for your dad. There are dozens of magazine cover templates to choose from. They have everything from hunting to fishing, water-skiing, polo, auto-racing, vintage car collecting, and the list goes on and on. The trick is having a photo of your dad participating in the activity you want to display on the magazine cover. For example, if you want your dad's image to grace the cover of "Fishing Today" then you ideally want to have a shot of him holding up a fish or at least a fishing pole.

Once you decide on a template you simply enter your image, add custom text, and the computer does the rest. Twenty-four hours later--presto--you have the ultimate Father's Day gift and dad will love bragging about his cover for years to come.
